30th September 2007 Premier Cup priority after double home win Port Talbot Town travel to Porthmadog on Tuesday in the opening round of the FAW Premier Cup as Tony Pennock’s side look to build on two consecutive home victories. Liam McCreesh and Kerry Morgan scored two opening half goals as Port Talbot defeated Aberystwyth Town 2-1 on Friday night to build on an excellent 5-1 win over NEWI Cefn Druids the weekend before and Pennock will be looking for more the same from his young side. Midfielder Matthew Thompson is expected to miss out on the midweek match following a hamstring injury sustained during Friday’s win leaving Pennock with only fourteen available outfield players including Dylan Blain who has been out of favour from the squad in recent weeks. Port Talbot reached the semi-final of the competition last season in which they claimed a famous victory over Swansea City at the RE/MAX Stadium in the previous round. The competition is highly lucrative for clubs in the Welsh Premier League with over £300,000 paid out in prize money each season including £100,000 for the competition winners. Kick off at Porthmadog is at 7.00pm with a coach leaving the RE/MAX Stadium at 12.00pm.

The three sides are now in action against Swansea City next weekend in which a total of five games at different age groups between the two sides will take place.

McCreesh opened the scoring when he found himself on the end of a superb run and cross by Lee John before on-loan Swansea City striker Morgan doubled the advantage with a fantastic strike from outside the area on 39 minutes. A hamstring injury to midfielder Matthew Thompson and with captain Matthew Rees suffering the effects of a recent illness, Port Talbot made enforced changes for the second half and allowed the visitors to reduce the deficit when Aneurin Thomas scored from a free kick on the edge of the area on 47 minutes. Port Talbot battled hard and remained well organised however and fully deserved the three points after creating a number of chances in the opening half. Despite the small squad available there is competition for places in key areas as Chad Bond showed with a battling performance upfront when he replaced Kerry Morgan in the second half.
28th September 2007 Double exit as Cockings returns to Trefelin After ten seasons at Port Talbot Town Football Club, defender Robert Cockings has returned to South Wales Amateur League side Trefelin. Then Port Talbot manager Dai Rees signed the talented young defender in 1997 as Rees started to build a side able to compete in the Welsh League and Robert was ever-present in the side up until last season when work commitments affected his availability. He became one of the most popular players at the club, enjoying promotion to the Welsh Premier League in 2000 and playing under six different managers. Also moving from the club is former Llanelli defender Dyfan Pierce who has signed for Welsh League side Dinas Powys who are managed by Nicky Tucker, the man who signed him for Llanelli. Dyfan has failed to make the squad in recent weeks and has decided to drop down a level to play regular football. The new transfer rules and transfer window leaves manager Tony Pennock with just seventeen available senior players including himself.

We certainly have the individual talent and the desire to win things”. Manager Tony Pennock has a full strength squad available for the match with on-loan Swansea City striker Kerry Morgan expected to partner Rose in attack and build on his excellent form with five goals from just three starting appearances. Despite having claimed only two points from the seven home meetings between the two clubs, Port Talbot have been made favourites for the match by our partner betting site Betway.

We were unbelievable for the first 35 minutes and scored three in a great five-minute spell.” Pennock was keen not to single out individual performances but couldn’t resist deserved praise for three-goal striker Kerry Morgan. “He's always a real threat, gives 100 per cent every match, is a real jack-in-the-box and his finishing, as he showed, is fantastic.” Liam McCreesh was a close second to Morgan with his best performance since his pre-season transfer from local rivals Afan Lido and he also rounded-off a fine individual performance with a superb goal. Morgan opened the scoring after a superb run from midfield by Matthew Thompson on 23 minutes before Liam McCreesh doubled the lead five minutes later with a well taken strike over the visiting goalkeeper. Martin Rose made it 3-0 less than a minute later before NEWI Cefn Druids were allowed back into the match with a goal just before half-time. There was still time for Port Talbot to regain their three goal advantage however as Kerry Morgan scored his second goal of the match with a looping header right on half time. NEWI Cefn Druids were allowed back into the match in the second half but were reduced to ten men when Ricky Evans received a straight red card to round-off another poor performance from referee Simon Jones. The scoring was completed on 70 minutes when Morgan found himself in space and made no mistake form close range.
21st September 2007 Pennock - ‘We have so far failed to gel’ Manager Tony Pennock has expressed his disappointment at Tuesday’s home draw with nine-man Welshpool Town ahead of his sides next home match against NEWI Cefn Druids on Saturday. “I was disappointed we failed to seal victory against nine men and Paul Reid and myself are trying to put our finger on why it happened,” Pennock told the South Wales Evening Post. “A draw at home is not sufficient. We have to go for three points against Druids. There have been few changes from last season's squad but we have so far failed to gel. I want the players to express themselves and I want it to happen sooner rather than later.” Defender Craig Hanford missed the match with flu but is expected to be available for the match. Kick off is at 2.30pm.
19th September 2007 Undefeated record the home advantage Despite a disappointing start to the season, Port Talbot Town have remained undefeated at home in all competitions and will be looking to build on Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Welshpool this Saturday against NEWI Cefn Druids at the RE/MAX Stadium. The Druids management duo of former Caernarfon manager Waynne Phillips and former Wrexham and Liverpool striker Lee Jones watched The New Saints defeat Port Talbot Town at Park Hall last weekend and will be looking to bounce back after a surprise 5-1 defeat at Bangor City on Tuesday night. 18th September 2007 Port Talbot held by nine-man Welshpool Lee Surman scored a 69th minute equaliser for Port Talbot Town on Tuesday night but it was not enough for his side to take maximum points as they were held to a 1-1 draw against nine man Welshpool at the RE/MAX Stadium. Brett Jeffries opened the scoring for the visitors within seven minutes of the match as Port Talbot Town manager Tony Pennock started with the forward pairing of Chad Bond and Kerry Morgan with top scorer Martin Rose on the bench. Port Talbot offered little in the opening half but were allowed back into the game when referee Steve Hames sent off two visiting players within eleven minutes of each other as Geraint Windsor was red carded on 54 minutes and was followed into the dressing room by John Keegan on 65 minutes. The dismissals forced Welshpool to sit back and defend their lead before Lee Surman scored from close range to set-up a hectic last twenty minutes. Port Talbot failed to find the winning goal however and were rarely able to trouble the visiting goalkeeper despite the numerical advantage as Welshpool held on for a share of the points.
