Close game but Swans deserved win
For the fourth time this season we again faced Swansea City Under-12‘s, with one draw and two wins to us they are always close, tough games and this was another that could have gone either way. In freezing conditions at Underhill Park in Mumbles we were without two key players in Alex and Taylor but I thought we still had enough to put in a performance. I asked the lads today to think back to our last game and take a look at themselves, I didn’t want a result, I wanted a performance to the standard that I know we are capable of. In the first period it was nip and tuck, an even game but the home side were winning the midfield battles and it proved costly as they went 2-0 up after just twelve minutes. We started to create chances and forced five corners in a short period of time and were unlucky not to score from each of them. In the second period the Swans number 15 took a half chance very well, very early and we were trailing 3-0 despite still playing very well and I kept encouraging the side to keep plugging away. Swansea were getting tired in the third and final period and we were gaining the upper hand, Evan pulled a goal back with a great lob and we were suddenly in with a shout. The game was becoming very stop and start however with the Swansea players staying down after nearly every tackle. The referee however was good and he stopped the clock every time. A great ball from Macauley Evans found Calvin Wellington who then darted down the middle and a top quality finish made it 3-2 but time ran out and we lost the game. As I said though the performance was very pleasing so well done lads, the hard work you have put in during training again paid off and we once again looked like an Academy side. Man of the match was Macauley Evans.
