13th January 2008 Late equaliser holds Under-19‘s to a point Despite the continuing wet weather, the excellent playing surface at the RE/MAX Stadium more than held upto the conditions that enabled this exciting match. Carmarthen started the stronger of the two sides and forced the early pressure with a series of corners that were comfortably dealt with by the Port Talbot defence until Rhys Lewis made space for himself in the area and headed home from close range to hand the visitors the lead. Carmarthen were then reduced to ten men when Daniel Butler was shown a straight red card for dissent towards the assistant referee. Port Talbot made their numerical superiority count and on 22 minutes Ben James marked his return to the side with a well taken strike into the bottom corner of the net. As the rain continued mistakes were made by both defences and it was only the flag of both assistant referee’s that prevented either side adding to their goal tally ahead of the half time whistle. Port Talbot came out the stronger of the two sides in the second half despite the swirling wind making the conditions difficult for both sides but it was Carmarthen who would again take the lead when Jamie Hancock hit a fine strike past Lloyd Clement in the Port Talbot goal. Within minutes the home side were again level however as substitute Stephen Williams rounded off a fine run from wide right by cutting inside and finishing in style despite the chance appearing to have escaped him. It was no more than Port Talbot deserved and on 79 minutes a mistake by Carmarthen goalkeeper Craig Tennant allowed Sam Baker to put Port Talbot ahead as he made no mistake from close range. Port Talbot were unable to hold on until the final whistle however as on 88 minutes Rhys Lewis had enough room to lift the ball over Lloyd Clement in the hoe goal to level the scores. An age of injury time followed due to the constant attention required by the visiting players but neither side could create the chance on goal that would win the match as the game finished with both sides sharing the points.
