19th December 2007 Late equaliser brings a fair result Western Avenue was as cold as ice for the final Academy game of 2007 v Aberystwyth. The game was a great encounter with both sides going for the win. Early exchanges fell to our youngsters against the freezing cold wind. Newly created full back Ryan Morgan (From striker to full back!! have we found a new right Back?, I think so!!!) linking well with Ryan Mckeegan down the right, some great play from that area of the pitch was evidently seen. Aber themselves created a few chances but for some wonderful positioning play of Goalkeeper Aaron Ryan kept them at bay. The best opportunity of the first period fell to Daniel Pugh after James Williams was pushed in the box and a penalty was awarded. Unfortunately after the penalty miss, Aber broke away and were awarded a free - kick 25 yards from Goal, a resulting wonder strike that was fit for the premiership sailed into the net leaving Aaron no chance just before the stroke of halftime saw us go in 1 down. At Half time saw some big changes, Jordan & Luke Edwards, Perry Courtney came on to try and push for equalising goal. Several chance went begging, a number cleared off the line, Aaron in superb form in goal preventing Aber from going 2 up as they hit us on the break. Soon the boys started to dictate game and further chances went begging, a few goalmouth scrambles still the ball would not go in, Aber GK pulling off some great saves to keep them with their slender lead. Some how the second period ended still 1 down. The boys now showing great belief that they could still go on and win the game, their character was awesome and attitude fantastic throughout, we dominated the 3rd and fourth and were just wondering where that goal was coming from when in the final few seconds a free kick was awarded our way - A superbly flighted free-kick from Sam Hodge straight onto the head of Sean Tenant at the back post who made sure the end result was a fair one at 1 each.
