Academy cruise to fourteen goal victory
With the season well on its way the Academy U14’s have found the going quite tough at times but Sunday was different! Even with eleven of the boys having already competed in at least 40 minutes in the Boys & Girls club’ s of Wales trial earlier in the day they were still able to turn on a performance that we have been waiting for. Sadly Barry Town failed to join the party and were overwhelmed by a rampant Town side and found themselves four goals down inside of the first ten minutes with goals coming from Liam Jenkins, Ryan Mc’Keegan and a brace from Jordan Edwards. There was very little in regards of defiance coming from the Barry ranks and Port Talbot just ran riot scoring three more in the first twenty minute period with goals being scored by Ryan Morgan and Liam Jenkins completing a very good hatrick. The second period saw the town’s youngsters concentrate more on team performance and ball retention than foraging for more goals. But goals are what this team are made of when in this mood and it was no surprise that three more were scored in this period with Daniel Pugh , Jordan Edwards completing his hatrick & Liam Jenkins getting his fourth.
The final period saw our boys losing their shape as they went for more goals and loads of chances missed as wrong options were being made all over the field. A lesson to be learned that doing the right things always bring more goals. But Barry weren’t going to get away lightly and four more goals came in the last ten minutes with James Williams scoring twice and two own goals heaping more misery on a depleted Barry defence. Sadly not the game we had hoped for as we came out of local football to avoid such scores, but the lads can only play what is in front of them and hopefully our next opponents will offer a much sterner test than 14 Vs 0. For the record, goal scorers were Lam Jenkins 4, Jordan Edwards 3, James Williams 2, Own goals 2 and a goal each for Ryan McKeegan, Ryan Morgan and Daniel Pugh.
