27th October 2007 - www.welsh-premier.com Steelmen slump to record loss Port Talbot slumped to a humiliating club-record eight-nil defeat at Stebonheath Park as they finished the game with nine men. Five goals from ex-Talbot favourites Andrew Mumford and Rhys Griffiths helped to consolidated the Reds in the Welsh Premier's top spot, but left Steelmen's boss Tony Pennock with plenty to ponder. Mumford started the rot when he headed home after just nine minutes and added a second with an almost identical header on 28 minutes. The visitors' top scorer Martin Rose headed narrowly wide with Talbot’s best chance of the half but the half-time replacement of Rose and midfielder Lee John back-fired on Pennock. Within five minutes of the restart the Reds were four goals to the good with goals from Griffiths and Mark Pritchard. Things got worse on 58 minutes when Gareth Phillips was shown a straight red card for a foul in the box and Griffiths made no mistake from the resulting spot kick. A reckless challenge led to the dismissal of Chad Bond and former Afan Lido striker Mark Jones added to Talbot's misery with a brace on 78 and 84 minutes. Former Remax favourite Griffiths then completed his hat-trick against his former club to end a miserable night for the visitors.

The Reds opened the scoring as early as the ninth minute through former Port Talbot midfielder Andy Mumford and the lead was doubled by the same man just before the half-hour mark. With the score just 2-0 at the break, nobody could have predicted the second-half mauling that they were about to witness as another former Steelman, Rhys Griffiths rubbed salt into his former side's wounds with a hat-trick. His first came on 49 minutes followed by a 58th penalty and an 87th minute third. Fellow striker Marc Pritchard also scored in the 50th minute, whilst impressive youngster Craig Jones, struck a brace after coming on as a sub. To make matters worse for the visitors, midfielder Gareth Phillips was sent-off.
