7th October 2007 Town comeback from two goal deficit to draw Whenever Port Talbot Town and Swansea City meet it is always an enthralling encounter and so it proved in this under 12‘s Academy local derby. With the head coach David Davies away on the FAW C Licence course in Llanelli it was left to assistant coaches Dai Prosser and Rhian to take charge of the team. Against a lethargic town defence, the Swans raced into a two goal lead inside the first 10 minutes, both goals came from a lack of communication amongst the town defenders, I think we need to improve as a unit and start talking and i am sure coach David Davies will be working hard on this in the next training session, also poor finishing by the Swans kept the score down to 0-2 in the opening part of the match. One thing that must to be said for this young side is that their fighting qualities are amazing and in the 2nd period they took the game by the scruff of the neck and pinned Swansea in their own half for long periods. Their pressure paid off when Calvin Wellington gave a great pass to Ashley Davies who shot into the corner to make it 1-2. however another lapse by the Blues let the Swans in 1-3. To Port Talbot’s credit they refused to lie down and suddenly started to play and played with vengeance. Taylor Golding scored the second and the Blues new they could get something out of this game, with time running out a great ball from Gagy found Calvin Wellington who scored a deserved equaliser, after the shaky start Port Talbot finished the stronger and should have won it late on but the draw was a fair result on the day.
