Manager Mark Pike rotated his squad for this difficult MacWhirter Welsh League Youth Division West match against champions and league favourites Llanelli as his side looked to build on their midweek victory over Haverfordwest County. It was the visitors who had the better of the early possession however with Antonio Facciuto a constant problem for Port Talbot Town on the left of midfield and his two early crosses tested the home defence. Port Talbot quickly settled into the match however and caught Llanelli on the counter-attack with striker Tom Gigg forcing visiting goalkeeper Craig Richards to make a superb save after fifteen minutes. Two minutes later Port Talbot were ahead as Gigg hooked the ball back into the area and Sam France was on hand to head the ball home. Port Talbot continued to push forward and Jack Germain should have made the most of his opportunity after beating the Llanelli defence but his shot went wide of the post. Llanelli continued to enjoy the better of the possession but Port Talbot remained well organised in defence with the confidence from taking the lead and extra incentive as they went into half-time. Llanelli came out with an positive attitude for the second half as they looked to pull the game back and on 59 minutes the eventual equaliser arrived through Daniel Smale. Antonio Facciuto then struck the crossbar with a long range effort before the visitors took the lead through Craig Frater on 67 minutes. Port Talbot were restricted to half-chances at the other end with Tom Gigg coming the closest to levelling the score with a long range effort that went wide of the post on 75 minutes but Llanelli made the game safe with nine minutes remaining when James Secker scored their third goal of the game. Frater could have added a second but his effort hit the crossbar. Despite the defeat Port Talbot will take a number of positives from the match having taken a one goal lead into half-time.
