McCreesh and Morgan on target in Aber win
Manager Tony Pennock named an unchanged starting line-up for this Principality Welsh Premier League and his reward was second victory for his side. Port Talbot had the far better of the opening exchanges with Lee John’s fitness improving game by game he caused the visiting defence problems with a number of early runs on the right hand side and created the first goal when his cross to the back post on 13 minutes was met by Liam McCreesh to score from a tight angle. It was no more than Port Talbot deserved and the combination of Martin Rose and Kerry Morgan in attack proved too much for the Aberystwyth defence. On 39 minutes Port Talbot doubled their advantage when Kerry Morgan picked up the ball outside the area and drilled a superb shot past the Aberystwyth goalkeeper. Matthew Thompson was replaced at half-time by Daniel Lancey after picking up a hamstring injury in the opening half and within minutes of the re-start Aberystwyth were back in the game when Aneurin Thomas placed a free-kick around the defensive wall and into the bottom corner of the net. Minutes later Port Talbot captain Matthew Rees was forced to leave the field as he continued to suffer the effects of a recent illness and was replaced at the back by David Burrows. Aberystwyth kept up the pressure as they went in search of an equaliser and as their frustrations increased the match became bad-tempered with referee Wayne Tregonning failing to punish a number of offences. Chad Bond replaced Kerry Morgan on 65 minutes and made an immediate impression as he looks to win back his place in the side as he challenged hard and made things difficult for the visiting defence. As Aberystwyth pushed forward they left themselves open at the back but Port Talbot were unable to add to their lead and held on to claim the three points in what was Port Talbot’s first ever home league win over Aberystwyth.

Steelmen’s first home win against Aber

Goals from Liam McCreesh and Kerry Morgan in the first-half secured a second successive home win for the Steelmen - their first success over Aberystwyth at the Remax Stadium in eight attempts. McCreesh opened the scoring when he found himself on the end of a superb run and cross by Lee John before on-loan Swansea City striker Morgan doubled the advantage with a fantastic strike from outside the area on 39 minutes. With a hamstring injury to midfielder Matthew Thompson and captain Matthew Rees forced off, suffering the effects of a recent illness, Port Talbot made changes for the second half and the visitors to reduce the deficit when Aneurin Thomas scored from a free kick on the edge of the area on 47 minutes. But Talbot remained well organised and deserved the three points after, successfully keeping the Seasiders at bay for the remainder of the game.
