23rd September 2007 Route one football the difference in Newtown defeat This was a game between two evenly matched teams who both wanted to win. In the opening period we were the better side, first in the tackle and had two great chances on goal, but Newtown towards the end of the first period forced four corners within three minutes. Our defence held well though which was very pleasing as we have worked hard on this in training. The first period ended goalless but in the second period Newtown changed their goalkeeper for a big lad with a huge kick that caused us problems, to be fair to Newtown they played good football also but it was the route one ball that caught us out a few times. Evan Corcoran got frustrated and gave away a silly free kick but, wow, what a goal from the set-piece, there was nothing our keeper could do to stop it and Newtown took the lead. The goal woke us up and our man of the match Taylor Golding, who played upfront, scored the equaliser within two minutes of the re-start. The last period and again it was the route one ball that caught us out. Two goals from long balls made it 3-1 to the visitors but we plugged away we were denied a penalty when Calvin was fouled in the area but a minute later the referee gave us a penalty when Taylor Golding was through and was brought down and Evan Corcoran made it 3-2 but we could not find the equaliser despite a late rally. The game was dedicated to Connor Prosser as his Gran sadly passed away. Connor should great courage as he still wanted to play for Port Talbot. Our thoughts are with our assistant coach David and his wife Maria along with the rest of the family at this time. David Davies Port Talbot Town Under-12‘s Academy Coach
