23rd September 2007 Port Talbot back on form against Newtown Normal conditions on western avenue, namely driving rain and wind, but the boys played some lovely football at times and deserved their win, finishing much the stronger side against a physically bigger Newtown team. Port Talbot took the lead in the first period when Sam Hodge fired in a trade mark free kick from 25 yards. Then some lovely build up play down the right led to Owen Williams crossing for Jordan Edwards to produce a fine right foot finish inside the box. At 2-0 the boys were in control at the end of the first period. The second period followed a similar pattern with Port Talbot controlling midfield with Ryan McKeegan and captain Oliver Bowen creating a number of chances. But a defensive slip let Newtown pull one back and then a very debatable penalty decision, when Sam Hodge clearly won the ball, but the Ref who must have had rain in his face , pointed to the spot, 2-2. In the third period the boys put their frustrations behind them , and the Ref evened up the penalty count, and Ryan McKeegan coolly converted the spot kick. The third period finished with our fourth goal with a great ball over the top of the Newtown defence by Chase Millichip and big striker Liam Jenkins rounded the keeper and calmly finished for a deserved goal. The final period saw Port Talbot dominate , but we again gave away a sloppy goal by pressing forward for our fifth goal. The final whistle went , a very well deserved victory for the boys, back to winning ways! Tony Bowen
