23rd September 2007 James and Baker on target in cup win Port Talbot Town U-19‘s claimed their first competitive win of the season in this MacWhirter Youth League Cup match at Briton Ferry. Despite heavy pressure from the home side in the opening exchanges, Port Talbot took an unexpected lead after 10 minutes when striker Ben James found himself in acres of space and finished well with a fine strike from the edge of the area against the run of play. Briton Ferry started to turn their possession into chances after the opening goal however and equalised from close range on 24 minutes after Port Talbot had failed to clear a corner. The poor conditions brought a number of heavy challenges in the middle of midfield as Port Talbot grew in confidence and they again took the lead on 40 minutes when Ben James made a fine run down the right hand side of the field and again finished well with a well taken goal. Despite the possession of the home side, Lloyd Clement was rarely troubled in the Port Talbot goal and his side went further ahead on 60 minutes when Sam Baker drilled the ball past the home goalkeeper to extend the visitors lead. Ten minutes later Port Talbot made it 4-1 when Baker again found himself in space as Briton Ferry pushed forward and made no mistake with another well taken goal. Briton Ferry kept up their pressure and were awarded a penalty on 80 minutes which they duly converted. Port Talbot defended well as the home side looked to reduce the deficit and held on for a convincing victory.
