Port Talbot Town rose to the challenge of their toughest match of the season so far as a strong Afan Lido side visited The GenQuip Stadium for this local derby. Lido named a number of players with 1st team experience including James McEvoy, Jonathan Hood and Carl Payne, who had played and scored for Afan Lido in the Welsh Cup the day before. Lido started the stronger of the two sides and forced the early pressure with a series of corners with Ryan Dummer the far busier of the two goalkeepers. The home side soon settled down however and created a number of chances for themselves in the entertaining match. Liam Pullen and Oliver Bowen both came close for the side with Lido goalkeeper Connah Williams needing to be at his best to deny Port Talbot Town. Aaron Biddescombe was moved to left back and impressed with an excellent performance both through his defensive play and from his attacking runs forward and it was from his attacking runs that Port Talbot were able to create their best chances. The competitive edge of the game spilled over midway through the opening half as a number of late tackles from the visitors went unpunished by the referee much to the frustration of manager Mark Pike. The opening half stayed goalless but seven minutes into the second half Lido went in front through Carl Payne as he headed the ball home from close range after a scramble in the area. Port Talbot made changes as they looked for an equaliser as Jordan Tomlinson and Jamie Jones were introduced into the team and it was Jones who grabbed the all important equaliser as he made no mistake with a well taken strike after 69 minutes. Port Talbot goalkeeper Ryan Dummer was called into action twice before the end of the game to make two fine saves while Jones and Pullen both had chances to win the match at the other end. The scores remained level however with Port Talbot able to take a number of positives from an excellent result and performance against their local rivals.
