In the only match in the division this weekend, both sides had the opportunity to
move up the table with a victory but chances for both sides were few and far between
as the two sides cancelled each other out with their similar long-ball approach.
The home side asked the early questions with a series of corners that were unconvincingly
dealt with by the Ton Pentre defence while Richard Ryan had the best chance of the
half for Goytre as he found himself in space but his shot curled high and wide. Ton
Pentre were creative in the final third of the field with Wayne Savage and Alyn Jones
linking well and the visitors should have taken the lead midway through the half.
The match remained goalless at the break much to the frustrations of both managers
and the second half continued in a similar fashion with both sides final ball generally
not up to scratch. Goytre goalkeeper Chris Curtis almost gifted the visitors with
a goal as he handled a back pass but Wayne Savage’s effort from the close range free-kick
went over the bar as Ton Pentre had the better of the first 20 minutes of the second
half. Goytre came back into the match before the end however with Richard French
having the best opportunity but his effort went wide of the post but neither side
could find a way to win the match as the referee brought the game to a close.
