The new season kicked off with a home fixture against ever improving Cwmavon FC. This game saw triplets Corey , Callum and Connor Thomas making their debuts and also Kian Williams who was returning to the team following a season off. The game kicked off and the opening 10 mins saw both teams struggling to pass the ball around which resulted in the game becoming very bunched in the middle of the park and no real clear cut chances on goal. The second 10 mins saw Port Talbot starting to pass the ball as they can and start to create decent chances but were thwarted by some excellent Cwmavon defending. Cwmavon also started creating their own chances but again superb defending from Luke Young and Curtis Bartlett prevented them taking the lead. The third quarter saw Cwmavon taking the lead probably against the run of play. A mix up at the back resulted in a Cwmavon forward breaking through and a cool finish resulted in a 1-0 lead to the visitors. The goal then seemed to kick start the Port Talbot effort with Cameron Sheehy unleashing a rocket shot which narrowly missed the target. But a well-deserved equaliser came thanks to some excellent midfield battling from Dylan Pickin to set up Cameron Sheehy who finished it off with ease. The final quarter saw the home side really pushing hard for the winning goal with Corey Thomas coming close but his shot just going wide. Both teams showing excellent commitment which resulted in game starting to become physical in the middle of the park. Then with about 5 mins to go Port Talbot took the lead thanks to a long range effort from Cameron Sheehy. Cwmavon then started pushing for the equaliser and with 1 min to go they had a shot which just cleared the bar. Final whistle blew with both teams giving 100% and Port Talbot coming out with a hard earned victory. The passing on times was not as good as we would like but the effort was 110%.
