This friendly saw 16 of a 20 man youth squad in action at the Gen Quip stadium against Mynydd U18 of Gwent The youth squad today saw 12 young boys making their Port Talbot Town youth debuts which included 3 players from Marks U16 academy team, Adam Thornton, Oliver Bowen & Johnny Mikels. The game started very fast, furious and physical from both teams with Port Talbot edging the first period and creating a number of chances, but also saw the Gwent side go close on occasions when the concentration levels fell below par. However, On 33 minutes a training ground free kick from Luc Jones was cleverly converted from debutant Sam France to make it a deserved 1 nil lead at half time. A stern half time team talk and the introduction of clubs academy player Oliver Bowen soon changed the game, Oliver in rampant mood and caused havoc down the right flank who set up another debutant Deaky to make it 2 nil, Oliver soon found himself on the scoresheet to increase the lead at 3 nil. The newly formed youth team are now in rampant mood and caused the Gwent side to chase shadows on occasions with superb football we are now well on top and never looked back. Our football was first class on times, the young midfield and defence were tremendous and the football was pleasure to see. Fitness levels were very high and the young men killed off the game with a further 2 goals from Sam France to make it his Hat Trick, Oliver Bowen then went on to make it his second of the match, the ever hard working Liam Pullen scores 2, and Luc Jones gets one to make it 9 nil. The fixture today was about getting the boys to get know each other in a game environment as well as gain the confidence in each other, we knew nothing about the Gwent side but was assured they were one of the best sides of the Gwent league U18 structure. The test today was very positive and many positives were taken from this game. Mark Pike, Manager.
