Frustrating draw against nine-man Welshpool
Port Talbot Town were held to a 1-1 draw against high-flying Welshpool Town at the RE/MAX Stadium in this Principality Welsh Premier League match despite their opponents being reduced to nine-men midway through the second half. Craig Hanford was unavailable for the match through illness as David Burrows made his return to the starting line-up while top scorer Martin Rose was left on the bench as Kerry Morgan partnered Chad Bond in attack. Welshpool opened the scoring in the opening minutes when Brett Jeffries headed home at the near post from a corner and they continued to pressure the home defence with their physical superiority across the field allowing them to keep possession and leave Port Talbot unable to create any chances until the last few minutes of the opening half when Morgan came close with an effort from the edge of the area. The second half saw Port Talbot play a more attacking game as they went in search of an equaliser and Morgan was unlucky again when his well hit strike rattled the crossbar. The game turned in favour of the home side on 54 minutes when Geraint Windsor was sent-off for a bad tackle for the visitors and Port Talbot were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when Chad Bond was fouled in the area. On 65 minutes Welshpool were further reduced when John Keegan was dismissed for another bad tackle as the visitors moved their remaining eight outfield players behind the ball to hold onto their lead. Minutes later Port Talbot equalised when Lee Surman was on hand to drive the ball home from close range. Martin Rose made an appearance from the bench when he replaced captain Matthew Rees and he offered the physical edge Port Talbot had been lacking in attack. Daniel Lancey came off the bench on 85 minutes and provided much needed width to the team as he tested the visitors with a series of crosses but Port Talbot failed to turn their possession into goals as Welshpool held on for a share of the points in a very frustrating match for the home side.

Nine man Pool make a point

Welshpool produced a rearguard performance at The Remax Stadium to return to mid-Wales with a point, despite being reduced to nine men. Brett Jefferies opened Pool's account with a header from twin brother Brett's corner after just seven minutes to put Tomi Morgan's men en route to a fifth win in a row, but the game was turned on its head by two second half dismissals. Geraint Windsor picked up a second yellow on 53 minutes and John Keegan followed 13 minutes later for the same offence. Three minutes later the Steelmen seized their chance when Lee Surman equalised from close range, but they were unable to press home their numerical advantage as the Lilywhites' defence held firm to seize a point.

Nine-man Welshpool gain point against Steelmen

Nine-man Welshpool produced a determined second-half rearguard to return from the Remax Stadium with a valuable point. A first-half header from Brett Jefferies had the mid Wales men contemplating their fifth win in a row, but the complexion of the encounter changed following a double dismissal after the break. Defender Geraint Windsor was the first to go on 53 minutes after picking up his second booking, and 13 minutes later the Pool back line was further depleted when John Keegan was given his marching orders after picking up two bookings. Lee Surman levelled matters for the Steelmen with a close range effort on 70 minutes but Pool, with all thoughts on defence, held firm at the back to ensure they returned home with a hard-earned point. The visitors had led after just six minutes when a Ross Stephens corner was headed into the net by Brett Jefferies.
