Awful defending and goalkeeping errors made this an entertaining midweek match at
Glenhafod Park. Pontardawe manager Steve Price named former Goytre duo Gareth Scantlebury
and Paul Lenihan in his starting line-up but after just 7 minutes home striker Richard
Ryan opened the scoring with a strike past Scantlebury despite claims from the visitors
that he was offside. Pontardawe settled into the match despite the goal and midfielder
Andrew Stoakes hit the post with a long range effort on 15 minutes. The visitors
enjoyed the better possession with Mark Napieralla influential in the sides build-up
play but at the other end of the field Ryan had little trouble in getting the better
of defender Robbie Daniels. Pontardawe equalised from the spot on 39 minutes when
Goytre keeper Chris Curtis fouled striker Richard Evans and Napieralla made no mistake.
The visitors switched off at the re-star however and less than a minute later defender
Dale Griffiths has restored the lead. A lob from outside the area from Ryan on 60
minutes beat Scantlebury as Goytre extended their advantage after he had also hit
the post minutes earlier. The game opened up as Pontardawe looked to bring themselves
back into the match and impressive youngster Andrew Lewis scored with a long range
effort that Curtis fumbled on 76 minutes to make it 3-2. Pontardawe again switched
off at the re-start however and within a minute were 4-2 down as Ryan completed his
hat-trick. On 81 minutes Pontardawe were rewarded a second penalty when substitute
Luke Michaels was brought down by Jason Cowan and Napieralla scored his second of
the match. Goytre would restore their advantage however as again from the re-start
Ryan grabbed his fourth of the match before Dale Price made it 6-3 with a long-range
effort on 87 minutes.
