Manager Mark Jones stayed with the same starting line-up that defeated Haverfordwest
County the weekend before with Gary Bansor returning to the squad to replace the
suspended Scott Evans on the bench. Port Talbot started the stronger of the two sides
and that was how it stayed for the remainder of the match as Welshpool offered little
upfront and even less in defence. Martin Rose tested the visiting goalkeeper early
on and eventually made the breakthrough after a period of pressure after 15 minutes
with a well taken goal inside the area. Port Talbot used their pace to good effect
with Scott Barrow and Drew Fahiya causing problems for the visitors but it was Matthew
Thompson who should have doubled the lead midway through the first half but his effort
cleared the crossbar. On 42 minutes Port Talbot did extend their lead as Drew Fahiya
controlled the ball superbly inside the area before slotting the ball past the advancing
keeper to hand his side a two goal lead at the break. Welshpool were briefly allowed
back into the match early in the second half but Port Talbot soon returned to their
first half form and began creating chances with Scott Barrow coming close from a
free kick and Leigh De-Vulgt with a long range effort. The third goal did not arrive
until the 85th minute however but it was worth the wait as Martin Rose lobbed the
ball into the corner of the net from a wide position to score what most people though
would be the goal of the game until substitute Shelton Payne picked up the ball on
the edge of the area on 87 minutes and added a fourth goal for the side with a fantastic
shot into the bottom corner of the net to complete the convincing win.

Match Report
A thread bare Technogroup side could not end the season on a high note and take advantage
of Newtown and Gap's defeats to climb into the top half. Danny Jones, Geraint Windsor,
Timmy Edwards, Andy Davies and Mike Thompson were all absent from the starting line
up, while midfielder Gareth Wilson had returned to parent club Rhyl. The home side
started the brighter and battered Technogroup in the opening stages. It wasn't long
before they took the lead, despite John Keegan's goalline block with his six pack,
when Martin Rose sent a rising shot into the top corner from six yards. Having come
away from the early onslaught only a goal behind, Technogroup began to look lively
in attack but, captain for the day, Steve Rogers was often isolated up front. As
the visitors pushed for an equaliser before the break a moment of magic from Drew
Fahiya doubled the hosts' lead. The striker juggled the ball around the advancing
defender before rolling it beneath Andy Mulliner to take Port Tablot in two goals
to the good at the break. The second half was a far more even affair with Steve Rogers
unfortunate not to pull a goal back from Technogroup with a lob from the edge of
the box. Martin Rose was to succeed where Jolly narrowly failed with ten minutes
to go, lifting the ball agonisingly over Mulliners head as it dropped under the bar
at the far post. The goal of the day was yet to come when Shelton Payne planted a
shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards with only his second touch of the game,
having arrived thirty seconds previously in the aftermath of Port's third goal. Technogroup
defended resolutely throughout, with two futher goal line clearances and some top
draw saves from Andy Mulliner, in response to a powerful Port Talbot attack. Today's
performance underlines the great work that Mark Jones has done since taking over
at the club and he's an outside bet for Manager of the Season.
