Leigh De-Vulgt and James Burgin returned to the starting line-up for this match but it was Port Talbot Town who found themselves a goal down inside the opening 15 minutes as Caernarfon were awarded a penalty and Ian Dawes made no mistake from his spot kick to hand his side a surprise lead. A penalty at the other end brought Port Talbot Town back into the match however as Martin Rose stepped up to score the first of his four goals. The visitors were caught out from the re-start however as Michael Jackson scored for Caernarfon to again take the lead but the match would move in Port Talbot’s favour before the break following the dismissal of Jon Humphries. Martin Rose was again on target inside the opening two minutes of the second half as he headed home a cross from Lee John but his best goal would come on 69 minutes and with it bring his hat-trick. Rose picked up the ball in his own half and proceeded to beat three defenders before rounding the advancing goalkeeper to finish in style. With the momentum in their favour Rose still had time to add to his tally and scored his fourth on 88 minutes with a good finish from inside the area. Caernarfon were reduced to nine men in injury time as Mike Garrity was sent off to round off a disappointing afternoon for the home side while Rose was left to celebrate his impressive goal haul.

Rose is the thorn for Caernarfon
Shooting star Martin Rose sparkled by scoring all four goals that completed Port Talbot’s double over basement outfit Caernarfon, whose days at the top flight seem numbered. The Canaries, who had led 1-0 early on and then 2-1 at half time, fell apart later and finished the game with just nine players after two dismissals. Jon Humphries received his second yellow card late in the first half and Mike Garrity had the same treatment during stoppage time at the end. Caernarfon had kicked off as the brighter prospects, passed the ball around well and looked in the right mood, so that the opening goal on 13 minutes was no surprise. Ian Dawes kept his cool to convert a penalty but then Port Talbot’s Rose began what was to become a one-man show when he was also spot-on after 35 minutes. Caernarfon regained the lead on 37 minutes, courtesy of Mike Jackson’s running header, but the second half belonged totally to the visitors, and Rose in particular, as take-over goals were hit on 48, 68 and 88 minutes.
