Match Report
On a lovely day to be at the seaside the Athletic made the journey to Locks Lane to play a friendly against Porthcawl A. Port Talbot started very brightly and tried to get the ball wide at every opportunity causing the Porthcawl defence all sorts of problems, Lewis in goals a mere spectator. The pressure finally paid off when Ashley stroked the ball into the back of the net after some neat passing from the midfield, 0-1. The second period was all Port Talbot with some excellent passing creating chance after chance but unfortunately we could not put the ball in the back of the net, 0-1. Porthcawl slowly began to come more into the match resulting in Lewis making some quality saves at the feet of their strikers, although it was Port Talbot who scored next from a quick throw in to Morgan who turned in the box and finished from 3 yards out, 0-2. The final period was keenly contested with both sides playing some lovely football. Then from a quick Lewis throw out ( and not a huge kick! )the ball was played through to Ashley who cooly beat the keeper from just inside the area, final score 0-3. A very entertaining and frustrating game which saw solid performances from the Philpott Brothers, Port Talbot's answer to the Mitchell brothers!, Ryan Harding and Pikey, Man Of The Match going to Tom Philpott who gave everything for 40 minutes.
