Caretaker manager Wayne Davies made just one enforced change from the side that drew at Airbus UK the week before as Gareth Phillips replaced the injured James Burgin while the visitors named three former Port Talbot Town players in their starting line-up as Dylan Blain, Dyfan Pierce and Craig Hanford returned to the club along with Luke Bowen who was named on the bench. Port Talbot started the better of the two sides and Haverfordwest goalkeeper Lee Idzi was under pressure from the start as Lee John and Darren Davies tested the visitors defence with a number of crosses and through balls. Haverfordwest were dangerous on the counter-attack however despite struggling against the pace of the home side although neither team could break the deadlock before half-time. With a number of managerial candidates in attendance, Port Talbot took a deserved lead within minutes of the re-start as Liam McCreesh found himself in space in the area and made no mistake with a well taken finish. It was no more than the side deserved but the goal sparked Haverfordwest into life and they became the better of the two sides as the second half progressed and it was no surprise when Nick Woodrow grabbed an equaliser on 72 minutes. With their confidence raised Haverfordwest pushed for a winner and it arrived in bizarre circumstances as Leigh De-Vulgt lobbed his own goalkeeper Kristian Rogers from the edge of the area on 78 minutes. Port Talbot battled for an equaliser but could not break through the organised defence of the visitors and were left to suffer another home defeat in what would more than likely be Wayne Davies last match in temporary charge. |
