Port Talbot Under-10‘s Athletic 2

Porthcawl Under-10‘s B 5

Match Report
Before we discuss the match I have some ammendments to last weeks report. Firstly the reason we went down to 7 players in the last 10 minutes was due to the fact that Pikey went off in the first period with a badly swollen thumb after landing awkwardly in a challenge for the ball (a visit to A&E showed a badly sprained thumb and pulled ligaments!) Secondly one of Coreys goals was in fact scored by Ashley, sorry Ashley. Finally Lewis Fellows who moaned of a sore hand after making one of his saves has in fact a fracture on his growth bone in his little finger and is out for three weeks.

On a fresh winters morning Porthcawl came to Western Avenue to play the Athletic who were minus Lewis Fellows as above and Tom Philpott away on holidays. Porthcawl got off to the perfect start scoring 3 well taken goals and playing some lovely football in the process, Port Talbot were well and truly caught cold, 0 - 3. The second period brought about a slight improvement but the chances created were not being put away and William Fox was doing his very best to keep Porthcawl at bay the other end, 0 - 3.The third period saw alot more fight from Port Talbot and credit to the players they never let their heads drop and 100% effort 0 - 3. Port Talbot now began to play but more importantly began to challenge for every ball and were finally rewarded when Corey scored a well taken goal after some neat passing, although Porthcawl soon restored their 3 goal cushion. Then there was the best goalmouth scramble ever to be seen with all the Port Talbot midfield and Corey having several shots each from inside the 6 yard area all being somehow blocked by the keeper and defenders! Pressure finally paid off when Corey who else scored the second. Rightly so Porthcawl had the last word when they scored their fifth goal before the final whistle, final score 2 - 5. Man of the match going to everyone for their performance from the second period on and a big thank you to William Fox who played 2 games back to back and was outstanding in both, this match was well and truly lost in the first 10 minutes.
