Defensive mistakes and wasted chances
Port Talbot will only have themselves to blame after this second away defeat of the season as they failed to turn their possession into goals and gifted the home side with two second half goals in the space of a minutes. Dyfan Pierce returned to the starting line-up in place of the injured Daniel Lancey and created a number of openings for the front two with crosses into the area while at the back Port Talbot limited the home side to a handful of long range efforts and looked comfortable in the opening exchanges. Martin Rose came close for Port Talbot midway through the opening half with a clever lob over the goalkeeper that drifted wide of the post before Liam McCreesh caused the home side problems with a surging run from midfield. Chris O’Sullivan had been a problem for Port Talbot for Port Talbot as he eased past Leigh De-Vulgt but was substituted just before half-time with an ankle injury. It was the second injury blow of the match for the home side after striker Ian Jones pulled out of the match in the warm-up. Port Talbot started strong in the second half but were quickly a goal behind when Jack Christopher was allowed acres of space inside the area and made no mistake with his well placed shot past Kristian Rogers. Minutes later and the home side doubled their advantage when Port Talbot gave the ball away cheaply at the back and the impressive Lee Hudgell was able to finish from close range and leave Port Talbot chasing the game. Top scorer Martin Rose was replaced as Port Talbot went in search of an equaliser but substitute Kerry Morgan was unable to create any opportunities and received a booking from his frustrations. Port Talbot forced a series of corners but lacked the presence of Rose in the area before Liam McCreesh pulled a goal back for the visitors after a goal mouth scramble. It was not enough for Port Talbot to make a complete comeback however as Haverfordwest held on to take the three points.

Match Report
Port Talbot went down to a disappointing 2-1 loss at Haverfordwest - their second successive defeat on the road. Jack Christopher and Lee Hudgell benefited from woeful Town defending to net after the break and, although Liam McCreesh (83) hit back, the Steelmen could not find the elusive equaliser. Port Talbot boss Tony Pennock was very disappointed. "It was a game we should have won," he said. "We keep shooting ourselves in the foot and we are not putting chances away. Two bad mistakes on the edge of our box cost us and the result was decided by the fact that they took their chances while we squandered ours." It has been a strange beginning to Pennock's managerial career at the Remax Stadium club, with away defeats at Caernarfon (3-1) and Haverfordwest, cushioned by a tremendous 5-1 home victory over Newtown. They languish 12th in the table, Neath are in 14th spot while Carmarthen have hit the dizzy heights of fifth. Ironically, Pennock attended Llanelli's 1-0 victory over Newi Cefn Druids at Stebontheath Park and witnessed former striker Rhys Griffiths hitting the winner. "It was a simple tap-in, what Rhys does best. That's what we are lacking - a 20-goals-a-season striker," Pennock added. "If we don't take our opportunities and stop giving away soft goals we are going to be fighting a battle this season."

Match Report
Derek Brazil will be delighted with his team's 2-1 victory over Tony Pennock's Port Talbot Town. Similarly to the match in Llandarcy Park, all three goals came in the second half and it was the Bluebirds young striker, Jack Christopher who grabbed the opener on the hour. Winger Lee Hudgell, making his first start of the season doubled the lead nine minutes later, and although Liam McCreesh scored his first for the club with nine minutes remaining, the Bluebirds managed to hang on to claim their second maximum haul of the season and maintain their 100% record at the Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Steelmen go west at County

Haverfordwest claimed the spoils as Port Talbot again demonstrated their frailty on the road. Goals from Jack Christopher and Lee Hudgell sealed the win for the Bluebirds, who survived a late scare when Liam McCreesh pulled a goal back. A tame first half produced little in the way of chances or entertainment but the game sparked into life after the break. Home pressure finally told when Christopher was left with a simple chance after a Talbot defender had deflected Nick Woodrow's pass straight into the box. Christopher then set-up the second for Hudgell to convert at the far post to put County in the driving seat, but they were forced endure a nervy last nine minutes. Keeper Lee Idzi would only fingertip a header onto his own line for McCreesh to pounce for the consolation goal.
