Report by Ian Wozencroft Match Report On yet another cold but perfect day for football Cynffig BGC came to Western Avenue to take on the Athletic, no doubt wanting to avenge the 12 - 1 defeat in the previous meeting only weeks earlier. Both teams were struggling with a bare 8 players, Lewis Wozencroft out with a broken thumb ( after being tackled by his father the previous week!! ) and Ashley Lewis away watching Man Utd. Things were nearly made worse when Lewis Fellows hurt his thumb in the warm up, but he bravely played on through the pain barrier. The first period was dominated by Port Talbot and it was no surprise when they took the lead through a well taken shot by Corey Evans, 1 - 0. The second period was more of a contest with Cynffig starting to find their feet but Port Talbot extended their lead when Pikey found the back of the net from a scuffed close range shot, 2 - 0. In the third period Cynffig hit back with a goal after some sloppy defending from Port Talbot, this really got the Cynffig players going and they started to play some good attacking football. Unfortunately with the good football came the bad tackles and the abusive comments from the Cynffig players this resulted in the ref having to stop play for several minutes to address the issues with the players. This seemed to work and Cynffig continued to apply the pressure with Port Talbot defending for their lives. The final period was all out attack from Cynffig and backs against the wall for Port Talbot who showed great courage and determination against the bigger, physical players from Cynffig. This 110% effort was rewarded late on when Morgan Davies forced the ball over the line on a rare Port Talbot surge forward, final score 3 - 1. Man Of The Match going to Corey Evans who didn't stop running and battling all game.
