MacWhirter Youth League Cup Group D |

The visitors started the better of the two sides in this latest League Cup group match with Port Talbot Town goalkeeper turning the best effort of the opening exchanges around the post as Carmarthen forced a number of early corners to test the home sides defence. Josh Wannacott impressed at the back for Port Talbot despite the visitors claiming the better of the opening exchanges although Sam Baker and Stephen Williams were a threat on the counter attack for Port Talbot. Carmarthen took a deserved lead after just 10 minutes when Alex Squires pushed forward from the back and finished in style but the home side soon settled into the game and finished the opening half the stronger of the two sides having forced a number of chances before the interval. Port Talbot started the second half as they had finished the first as Luke James equalised within a minute of the re-start before Callum Hanford added to the scoreline to hand the side the lead on 54 minutes. Port Talbot could and should have improved on the score over the following ten minutes as a rattled Carmarthen struggled to cope with the attacking play of the home side. Port Talbot wasted a number of chances however and on 71 minutes impressive Carmarthen Town striker Ashley Williams weaved his way through the home defence to equalise. Carmarthen then took the lead five minutes later as Williams added his second of the game. Frustrations brought a straight red card for Stephen Williams as Port Talbot looked to get themselves back into the match but they could not find a way to equalise before the final whistle. |
