Match Report
On a warm winters morning Cynffig attended Western Avenue for a friendly fixture with undoubtly the largest side we will play all season. The physical presence of the Cynffig side clearly rattled the boys who were well of the pace in the first 10 minute period and lucky to be 1-1, Cynffig gifting Port Talbot their goal when the centre back put the ball into his own net. The boys started to show some fight in the second period but were still wary of their larger opponents score still 1 -1. The half time team talk was stern and the coach was looking for a reaction in the third period and i think he got it !!. Lewis and Max were now making all of their tackles count in defence, Lewis Fellows was actually throwing the ball and not kicking it, the midfield boys were dominant winning challenges and getting the ball wide at every opportunity and Corey was now becoming a real handful upfront. This resulted in Port Talbot scoring 5 goals in the period ( too many to mention individually ) score 6-1. The final period was very much the same with the midfield of Pikey, Aaron, Tom, Morgan and Ashley totally in charge and scoring another 6 goals in the process, some of which the best the coach has seen from his side, final score 12 - 1. Scorers Corey 2, Pikey 2, Ashley 1, Ryan 2, Morgan 2, Aaron 2. Well done to Ryan Harding impressing on his first appearance for the Athletic. Man of the match going to Tom Philpott for his all round determined performance. Keep it up lads.
