FAW Youth Cup 1st Round |
|
Recent 1st team signing David Biggs was included in the side for this Welsh Cup match against Caerleon and impressed with a composed performance in the centre of defence. Port Talbot started the better of the two sides and took the lead in the opening exchanges through the lively Steffan Williams who opened the scoring with a superb drive from outside the area. After making his first Welsh Premier League appearance of the season as a substitute 24 hours previously, Sam Baker became the main creative option for the side from the right as Port Talbot caused the visiting defence a number of problems and Baker could have increased the lead but his shot was well saved midway through the opening half. Lloyd Clement was rarely troubled in the home goal at the other end as Port Talbot took a deserved lead into half time and started the second half in the same vein as the first as they continued to take the game to Caerleon. New signing Louis Jackson impressed and doubled the advantage midway through the second half with a well taken strike although Caerleon were allowed the opportunity to get back into the match as Clement was called into action to make a series of saves. Port Talbot were rarely in doubt of claiming the win however and created a number of further chances as Caerleon pushed forward to reduce the deficit late in the match. Although they were unable to add to their lead it was a comfortable victory for the side to take them into the next round of the competition with a comfortable and impressive victory. |
