Match Report
On a glorious Saturday morning Port Talbot Athletic kicked off their season with a match against Cwmafan. Port Talbot started slowly and found it difficult to get their passing game going, with credit going to Cwmafan who gave them no time or space with the ball. As a result Cwmafan began to grow in confidence and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the second period with a fine shot drilled low into the bottom corner from the edge of the area, leaving Lewis Fellows no chance 0-1. In the third period the boys began to pick up the pace and the chances started to come with both teams struggling in the heat! With Jordan Pike having difficulty taking corners with the new match ball Lewis Wozencroft made a well timed run from defence to work a short corner allowing Pikey to cross perfectly for Corey Evans to tap in from a yard out, 1-1. In the final period the heat was taking its toll on both teams especially Port Talbot who only had the 8 players with Morgan Davies sick with chicken pox. This didn't stop young Pikey though who was a constant threat with his runs down the left wing. With the match now heading for a draw Aaron Sarich got hold of the ball inside the Cwmafan area and drilled it low into the back of the net to the joy of the parents stood on the home touchline, final score 2-1. Although the performance was not the boys best they ground out a victory much to the relief of Max Knight and Ashley Lewis who joined Port Talbot from Cwmafan in the summer. Man of the match going to Pikey.
