25th August 2007 Port Talbot impress despite set pieces proving costly This was only our third 11-a-side match on a full size pitch and I was very proud of each and every member of the squad. It was a very tough match. The game started with a blistering pace with both teams cancelling each other out. The first period of the three twenty minute sessions finished goalless with Port Talbot Town slightly on top and came close to opening the scoring from a free kick by Evan Corcoran. In the 2nd period Bournemouth had a few good chances however with Port Talbot Town goalkeeper Rhys Parry pulling off some remarkable saves. Unfortunatly he was powerless to stop a wonder striker from the Bournemouth number nine. The second period finished in favour of the home side through that fantastic goal. In the final third Port Talbot pushed to equalise but were caught on the break with Rhys Parry again making a great save to force a corner. Bournemouth then punished us from the resulting corner to make it 2-0. The again scored two minutes later from another corner but Port Talbot carried on battling and finished the match very strong. Bournemouth held on to their lead to win 3-0 but it was a great performance by Port Talbot Academy Under-12‘s especially missing two top players through injury. Afan FM Man of the Match - Rhys Parry.
