Mark McGibbon returned to the Port Talbot Town line-up for this local derby while there was a welcome debut for Swansea City striker Stefan Morrison who made an immediate impact on his loan to the club with two goals in this disappointing draw. Port Talbot started the far stronger of the two sides with Morrison, James Burgin, Lee John and former Afan Lido player Liam McCreesh creating a number of chances in the opening exchanges with McCreesh coming close to opening the scoring in the first few minutes. A strong run by Burgin on the left opened up the Lido defence on 14 minutes and he found Morrison at the back post for the former West Bromwich Albion striker to score from close range. Lee John should have doubled the advantage soon after before McCreesh created a further chance. Lido crept back into the game however and on 28 minutes former Port Talbot Town trialist Darren Griffiths equalised with a well taken goal after a period of pressure from the home side. Afan Lido then took the lead before half time when Griffiths slotted home a penalty in style. Port Talbot made a number of second half changes but the reorganisation did little to inspire a comeback as they limped through a poor second half in heavy rain and under the guidance of a referee struggling to control the game. On 82 minutes however the game changed in the favour of the visitors as substitute Drew Fahiya created enough space to set-up Stefan Morrison for the striker to score his second goal of the game with a shot from the edge of the area. Port Talbot pushed on for a winner with Lee John making a number of strong runs into the Lido half but the home side held on for a share of the spoils. |
