MARCH 2009 30th March 2009 Jones - “We have shown we can compete with the best” Manager Mark Jones was quick to praise his players after Sunday’s 2-2 draw at home to Rhyl. “We have shown we can compete with the best in the league today,” said Jones in the Western Mail. “There is no reason why we cannot, in the future, be a club who are constantly near the top of the league. My only real disappointment was that we gave away two soft goals, especially the second one. They scored in the 95th minute and 94 minutes and 15 seconds we are on the edge of their box. But we tried to play one or two passes, lost possession and they sweep down our end to score. I’ve told the lads we have to learn to close out situations. We should have taken the ball into the corner to run the clock down”. Despite his disappointment Jones also noted the difference between the two sides off the field. “We are doing well on a much smaller budget than Rhyl. They brought their whole squad of 22 players here while we have been battling on with 14 and 15. I can’t praise my players enough for the effort they put in week after week,” he added. 29th March 2009 Blues denied first Rhyl double by last kick equaliser Despite leading for over ninety minutes against league leaders Rhyl on Sunday, Port Talbot Town were denied a first ever double over the North Wales club by an injury time equaliser in a 2-2 draw. Port Talbot took the lead through Liam McCreesh inside the opening two minutes and extended their lead midway through the second half when Scott Barrow curled a free kick into the top corner of the net. Appearing to be cruising towards their second win of the season against the league leaders, Rhyl pulled a goal back on 71 minutes to spark a revival and their constant pressure on the Port Talbot Town defence paid off deep into injury time as substitute Greg Stones scored the all important equaliser with the last kick of the game. 29th March 2009 Youth claim comfortable win at Ferry On Sunday the Under-19 side claimed three points with a 2-0 away win over Briton Ferry Athletic. 29th March 2009 Principality Welsh Premier League round-up Due to Wales 2010 World Cup qualifier against Finland on Saturday, the domestic action was spread across Friday and Sunday in the Principality Welsh Premier League. On Friday NEWI Cefn Druids boosted their position in the bottom half of the table with a 6-0 win over GAP Connah’s Quay while Bangor City dropped further points as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Technogroup Welshpool. On Sunday The New Saints grabbed the headlines with an incredible 8-0 win at home to Carmarthen Town. The visitors were reduced to nine men in the surprise result. Rhyl dropped points despite scoring an injury time equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Port Talbot Town while Llanelli maintained their title challenge with a 5-0 home win over Porthmadog. At the other end of the table Caersws earned a valuable win at Airbus UK Broughton, Stewart White and Ross Jeffries scoring in the 2-0 win, while Neath claimed an impressive 3-0 win at home to Newtown. In the remaining games of the weekend Prestatyn defeated Aberystwyth Town 1-0 at home and Haverfordwest won 1-0 at Caernarfon Town. 29th March 2009 by Donna Brady Girls impress with double victory at Thornhill Away to Thornhill ground, playing Dinas Powys first with a great win 6-0. The goals scored by Courtney Sawyers (2), Lauren Amor (2) Rebekah Williams and an own goal from Dinas. Girls played easy football with some nice passing and defending. Talent id was Demi Brady and Lauren Amor. Our second game was against Thornhill who we beat 2-1 two weeks ago. so the pressure was on for our girls. They warmed up ready and they couldn’t get on the pitch quick enough to start. We started the game with some excellent passing and our girls where really confident. Five minutes into the game a strong pass to Courtney Sawyers who scored our first goal. We faught really hard defending as we pushed extra players back to keep it tight. Some surperb saves again from Lauren Garrett, which I think is well deserved talent id with Courtney Sawyers. Great end to the season with double victory in our league games. We will be starting our cup games on the 12th of April, wishing our girls all the best who ill know they wont give up without a fight! Done well again Port Talbot, excellent football and we are all very proud of you all. 27th March 2009 Bickerstaff praise for Jones ahead of Sunday test Rhyl manager Allan Bickerstaff has praised the impact of Mark Jones at Port Talbot Town ahead of their visit to The GenQuip Stadium on Saunday afternoon. Rhyl currently lead the Principality Welsh Premier League but Bickerstaff is not expecting an easy match this weekend. “They were a tough enough side when we played them at home never mind away,” said Bickerstaff referring to Port Talbot’s 3-2 win at Belle Vue earlier in the season. “We’ll have to be on our top game to get anything from there. Mark Jones had done a fantastic job since he took over and I’m confident they’ll finish high in the table.” Kick off is at 2.30pm. 27th March 2009 Burgin returns to Liberty Midfielder James Burgin has returned to Swansea City Football Club after his loan spell at the club. Burgin is now expected to join Swedish side Ostersund on-loan ahead of the start of the Swedish domestic season together with former Port Talbot Town striker Chad Bond. 27th March 2009 McCreesh handed two match suspension Influential midfielder Liam McCreesh has picked up a two match suspension for his accumulation of bookings. McCreesh is available for this Sunday’s match against league leaders Rhyl at The GenQuip Stadium but will miss the following two matches away at Porthmadog and at home to Airbus UK Broughton. McCreesh then returns for the Easter Monday match at home to local rivals Neath. 27th March 2009 Academy promotion for Sunday support The Academy take on Aberystwyth Town on Sunday at midday and Academy Director Darren Davies has invited all players back to The GenQuip Stadium to watch the Principality Welsh Premier League match against Rhyl. All the clubs Academy players will receive free entry to the match while accompanying parents will be admitted at a reduced admission fee. 24th March 2009 Rose aims for 50th strike against league leaders Top scorer Martin Rose has now scored 49 Principality Welsh Premier League goals for Port Talbot Town and has the chance to reach a half century on Sunday against league leaders Rhyl at The GenQuip Stadium. Rose scored twice for Port Talbot Town in the 3-2 win at Rhyl earlier in the season and Sunday offers Rose the ideal time to reach his first milestone with the club. The match is being played on Sunday due to the 2010 World Cup qualifier between Wales and Finland in Cardiff on Saturday and S4C will be featuring the match on their highlights programme Sgorio Cymru. Kick off is at 2.30pm. 24th March 2009 Swans Reserves home on Wednesday night Swansea City Reserves are in action at The GenQuip Stadium on Wednesday night when they take on Cheltenham Town in the Totesport Combination Reserve Division Wales & West. Kick off is at 7.00pm. 22nd March 2009 Super Sunday as Blues plan double over league leaders Despite suffering a 2-0 defeat at champions Llanelli on Friday night, Port Talbot Town have a second chance to affect the title chase when they take on league leaders Rhyl at The GenQuip Stadium on Sunday and with it claim a first ever double against the North Wales side. Port Talbot defeated Rhyl 3-2 at Belle Vue earlier in the season and will be confident of upsetting Allan Bickerstaff’s side. The match takes place on Sunday due to Wales 2010 World Cup qualifier against Finland at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday. 22nd March 2009 Jones strike takes Reserves into Semi-Final Matthew Jones scored the only goal of the game for the Reserves on Saturday as they defeated Garden Village in the Reserve Division Cup. The side now take on Pontardawe in the Semi-Final. Meanwhile the Exiles extended their lead with a 3-0 win over Margam while the Under-19‘s lost 1-0 to Afan Lido on Sunday. 21st March 2009 Principality Welsh Premier League round-up The weekend action started on Friday night as champions Llanelli maintained their challenge on leaders Rhyl with a comfortable 2-0 win over Port Talbot Town in front 395 spectators, the biggest gate of the weekend. Rhyl regained their advantage on Saturday with a 3-0 victory at Caersws while Carmarthen Town were surprisingly beaten at home to Technogroup Welshpool 1-0 through a Geraint Windsor goal. At the other end of the table Caernarfon produced a surprise win with a 3-1 victory at Porthmadog while Neath also helped their cause with a 2-0 win at home to Prestatyn Town. On-loan Swansea City striker Kerry Morgan scoring both the goals. NEWI Cefn Druids earned a point away at Aberystwyth in a 1-1 draw while Bangor City needed a goal from Christian Seargeant to claim maximum points at home to Airbus UK Broughton. In the remaining game of the weekend, Jack Christopher added to seasons total with the only goal of the game as Haverfordwest County defeated Newtown at The New Bridge Meadow. 20th March 2009 Reds claim win as Blues rue defensive mistakes Llanelli claimed a 2-0 win over Port Talbot Town at Stebonheath on Friday night through two first half lapses at the back in a match that lacked the intensity and excitement of recent fixtures between the two clubs. Billed as the battle of the leagues two in-form strikers, neither Rhys Griffiths or Martin Rose could muster a single chance on goal with opportunities few and far between. Llanelli took the lead after just eight minutes when Drew Fahiya failed to clear at the back post and turned the ball into his own net. Fahiya had two chances to make amends but on 22 minutes Port Talbot failed to convincingly clear a cross and as the ball came back in Jason Bowen was able to head past Kristian Rogers to double their lead. Scottish exchange referee Brian Colvin could have dismissed Llanelli’s Matthew Jones for an elbow on Gareth Phillips in one of the games few controversial moments but opted for a yellow card in what was a surprisingly low-key fixture after the recent games between the two clubs. Llanelli comfortably held on for their victory in a dire second half to keep up their title challenge and with it leave Port Talbot to rue their early defensive errors. 19th March 2009 Recent form and fully fit squad offer Jonah tough decisions Manager Mark Jones has the rare luxury of an almost fully fit squad to choose from for Friday nights Principality Welsh Premier League match against Llanelli at Stebonheath. Jones has been restricted in his team selections by injury and suspension in recent weeks but now only has a doubt surrounding on-loan Swansea City midfielder Scott Evans as the rest of the squad are declared fit. Two-time Llanelli target Lee Surman missed last weeks win over Caersws with a hamstring strain and his replacement Gary Bansor impressed with a strong performance and a goal in the 2-0 win and will be just one of the the difficult selection choices Jones will make this weekend. Experienced midfielder Gareth Phillips also returns but his place has recently been taken by Karl Lewis and with the side picking up 13 points from a possible 15 with a number of fringe players performing well it will be an interesting team selection against the current league champions. In an added twist to the usually competitive fixture Scottish referee Brian Colvin will take charge of the match as part of the exchange programme between the FAW and their Scottish counterparts. Kick off is at 7.30pm. 18th March 2009 Cup Final defeat for Under-16 Blues The Under 16's Challenge Cup Final took place at Afan Lido on Monday. Corus took an early lead and held that until midway through the second half, when they increased their lead after being put under a prolonged spell of pressure. Port Talbot Blues pulled a goal back with some eight minutes to go and then subjected the Corus defence to some anxious moments, before the final whistle went, with a relieved Corus Side taking the honours with a final score of 2-1 in what was a very close match. 18th March 2009 Under-12‘s light up GenQuip in first floodlit game The Under-12 side played their first match at The GenQuip Stadium on Wednesday night and claimed an impressive victory over Baglan BGC. Jamie Latham scored the first of the sides five goals before half-time before Callum Margetson, Mitchel Edwards, Stephen Jenkins and Shaun Sutton completed the 5-0 win. 17th March 2009 Reds plan revenge as Blues plan title race upset Port Talbot Town take on South Wales rivals Llanelli at Stebonheath Park in the Principality Welsh Premier League on Friday night in what is the first match in a title affecting double for Mark Jones side as the following weekend they return to The GenQuip Stadium to take on league leaders Rhyl. Having defeated Port Talbot Town 6-4 earlier in a bizarre match earlier in the season, Llanelli were defeated by Mark Jones side in the Welsh Cup as goals from Liam McCreesh and Martin Rose earned Port Talbot a 2-1 win and with the title slipping further away from the Reds as Rhyl open up a seven point lead, Llanelli will be desperate to use their home advantage to earn an important three points this weekend. Two players expected to be at their best against their former clubs on Friday are Port Talbot striker Martin Rose and Llanelli forward Rhys Griffiths. The pair are currently leading the Principality Welsh Premier League scoring charts and are the only players to score four goals for Port Talbot Town in the league. In the earlier 6-4 defeat, both players grabbed a hat-trick each and a similar feat could be the difference between the two sides on Friday. Kick off is at 7.30pm. 17th March 2009 by Darren Vaughan Under-12‘s ready for GenQuip Stadium experience The Under-12 Team expect to name a full strength squad for the midweek clash against Baglan BGC on Wednesday when they play their first match of the season at The GenQuip Stadium. Port Talbot Town welcome back Jamie Davies (dead leg), Leigh Morgan (mouth infection) and Stephen Jenkins (perforated year drum) for the game. The Blues will look to make amends for the early season defeat away to Baglan while the game will be their first at the ground and under floodlights. “It is a special game for the players”, said the sides Elite Performance Director Chris Latham. “It is one that the kids are really looking forward to”, he added. The Port Talbot Town squad for the match is as follows. Leigh Morgan (GK), James Tobin, Ross Tobin, Elliott Chering, Casey Jones, Jamie Davies, Joshua Heycock, Callum Margetson, Jamie Latham, Morgan McIntosh, Mitchel Edwards, Stephen Jenkins, Shaun Sutton, Kieron Messer and Gethyn Hopson. 16th March 2009 Praise for players ahead of Llanelli derby Manager Mark Jones was again quick to praise his players after Saturdays 2-0 win over Caersws and his side can now have a week’s rest before Fridays match at champions Llanelli. “The lads have played five games in the last 15 days, have picked up 13 points and I cannot speak too highly of their efforts,” he said. “We were 2-0 up after half an hour, but it all went a bit flat second half as the heavy programme began to take its toll. This was a good win against a side who are fighting for their lives and we were without Martin Rose, Lee Surman and Gareth Phillips. Thankfully, we now have a week’s rest.” 16th March 2009 Clean sweep for club over weekend The Reserve Team, Exiles and Under-19‘s all matched the efforts of the 1st Team over the weekend as they all claimed comfortable victories in their respective games. 16th March 2009 by Donna Brady Girls claim double victory at Porthcawl Away to Porthcawl to play Thornhill and Pantyscallog. First game was against Thornhill, the team who haven’t lost a game, so we where expecting to play a really strong side and Thornhill delivered. We played excellent football with some great passing skills and working very hard as a team. Thornhill scored first half but really our girls did not deserve to be a goal down. Second half our girls heads where up and fighting hard when a goal came from Demi Brady and then a winning goal from Courtney Sawyers. Talent ID was Demi Brady and Courtney Sawyers. A great win and well deserved. Second game was against Pantyscallog and the girls were very tired but still proved to be the stronger side winning 4-0. Goals from Megan Davies, Lauren Amor, Courtney Sawyers and Demi Brady. Talent ID was Demi Brady and Ffion Targett. Just like to say girls very proud of you all today, all working together as a team no matter what. Just like to mention few of the girls who don’t get mention much in Lauren Paddison and Billie Eley who are improving a great deal. Well done. 14th March 2009 Bansor scores on debut as Blues ease past Caersws Recent signing Gary Bansor made his first start for Port Talbot Town on Saturday as Mark Jones side claimed a comfortable 2-0 win against Caersws at The GenQuip Stadium and it was Bansor who made the headlines with a well taken goal. Lee Surman failed a fitness test before the match to offer Bansor his debut as he partnered Matthew Rees in defence and impressed with an excellent performance. Karl Lewis also retained his place in the side as Gareth Phillips returned as substitute but top scorer Martin Rose missed the match through a one match ban. Lee John opened the scoring in what was a generally poor match with a superb drive from the edge of the area on 25 minutes and on 31 minutes Port Talbot had doubled their lead through a fine header from Bansor. Although chances were few and far between Port Talbot cruised to victory and James Burgin could have increased the lead but his second half free kick was well saved. Mark Jones side are now back in action on Friday when they make the short journey to Llanelli. 14th March 2009 Principality Welsh Premier League round-up The weekend action started on Friday night with the big North Wales derby as 1,547 people watched Rhyl claim a resounding 4-1 win over rivals Bangor City. Also on Friday night Steve Rogers scored all three goals for Technogroup Welshpool as they comfortably defeated GAP Connah’s Quay 3-1. Llanelli maintained their challenge for the title with a 5-0 win at bottom of the table Caernarfon Town, Rhys Griffiths opened the scoring after just two minutes and grabbed another before the end. The New Saints were held at home by Aberystwyth in a 1-1 draw while Stuart Robers scored the only goal of the game as Carmarthen narrowly defeated Airbus UK Broughton. Port Talbot Town claimed a comfortable 2-0 win at home against Caersws while in the bottom of the table six pointer NEWI Cefn Druids defeated Neath 3-1. Jack Christopher scored the only goal for Haverfordwest as they defeated Prestatyn Town 1-0 while Newtown eased past Porthmadog with a 2-0 home win through goals from Nicky Ward and Neil Mitchell. 13th March 2009 by Mark Pike Juniors in Comic Relief fundraiser Liam Jenkins, a member of our Under-15 squad, rose to the challenge recently put to five of our long haired players. The challenge was to have their hair shaved off to at least a skinhead number three by Thursday and £35 would be donated to Comic relief. Liam the bravest of the lot came training Thursday evening and proudly presented his shaved head to us all, as a result £35 has just been donated to comic relief. Well done Liam, I knew we could rely on you! 13th March 2009 by Darren Vaughan Under-12‘s reach semi-final with six goal win The Under-12‘s reached the Semi-Final of the Challenge Cup with a superb 6-1 win over Goytre United last weekend. Goalscorers for the team were Morgan McIntosh, Shaun Sutton, Jamie Latham, Keiron Messer and a brace from Casey Jones. The side will play Corus Steel in the Semi-Final. 12th March 2009 Blues take on Bluebirds without their perennial striker Top scorer and man of the moment Martin Rose will sit out Saturdays match against Caersws at The GenQuip Stadium due to a one match suspension. Rose scored all four goals in the 4-2 win over Caernarfon last weekend and added to his seasons tally with another strike in midweek in the win over Technogroup Welshpool on Tuesday to keep the pressure on Rhys Griffiths at the top of the scoring chart. Available once again after a three match suspension however is influential midfielder Gareth Phillips but he will have competition for his place in the side from recent signing Karl Lewis who put in a man of the match performance in the midweek victory. Another new signing to impress in midweek was defender Gary Bansor and with Lee Surman to be assessed on a hamstring strain closer to the match he could find himself in contention for his first start. Lee John sat out Tuesdays game through illness but is expected to be available and is one of the options available to manager Mark Jones to replace Rose in attack. Kick off is at 2.30pm. 11th March 2009 Praise for crusading Steelmen after undefeated treble Port Talbot Town manager Mark Jones and Chairman Andrew Edwards have praised the squad for their commitment and attitude over the last eight days. The side have played three consecutive away fixtures against three physical sides on three very difficult playing surfaces and their achievement of claiming seven points from a possible nine is made all the more impressive as they travelled almost 1,000 miles in that time. “I cannot say enough about the character of the players”, said manager Mark Jones. “The response from each and every one of them has been superb and they deserve success”. Chairman Andrew Edwards was also quick to praise the side. “The commitment and attitude shown by the players over three difficult away fixtures has been remarkable”, he said. “I would personally like to thank them on behalf of the club for making the 1,000 mile journey over the last week and congratulate them on a fantastic seven point return”. Mark Jones side are now back in action on Saturday when Caersws visit The GenQuip Stadium. Kick off is at 2.30pm. 10th March 2009 Road trip offers few problems for Blues with latest win Port Talbot Town picked up a further three points on the road on Tuesday night with an impressive 2-1 win at Technogroup Welshpool, a victory that completed an amazing return of seven points from a possible nine from three away games in eight days and having travelled close to 1,000 miles to play them. With a draw at NEWI Cefn Druids last Tuesday and a 4-1 victory at Caernarfon Town at the weekend already in the bag, Port Talbot took the lead at Welshpool through a familiar source as Martin Rose made no mistake from a fourth minute penalty. The home side equalised through their own in-form striker Steve Rogers early in the second half but Mark Jones side claimed maximum points through Liam McCreesh as he scored his sixth goal of the season on 66 minutes. Recent signing Gary Bansor made his first appearance for the last 30 minutes of the match as he replaced Lee Surman in the centre of defence while another recent signing Karl Lewis was preferred in midfield with Gareth Phillips serving the third match of his three match suspension. The side are now back in action at The GenQuip Stadium on Saturday against Caersws. Kick off is at 2.30pm. 9th March 2009 Rose hits form in time for Golden Boot challenge The last time a Port Talbot Town player scored four goals in a Welsh Premier League match he went onto claim the league’s Golden Boot and Player of the Season awards. Back in 2005-2006 it was Rhys Griffiths who was sweeping the accolades with the tremendous individual achievement but history could soon repeat itself as Martin Rose hits the goal trail. Signed as a replacement for Llanelli-bound Griffiths by then manager Wayne Davies in 2006, Rose struggled at first to break into the side but hit form with a run in the team and has not looked back, a story very similar to that of Griffiths at the club a few years before. Griffiths currently leads the top scorers chart with 30 goals, but he is injured. Second to him is Bangor City striker Chris Sharp on 25, also injured and out for the season. Next in line with 21 League and League Cup strikes is Rose, fully fit and on form. Although he will miss Saturday’s home at Caersws through suspension, Rose has eight games starting at Welshpool on Tuesday night to climb his way further up the scoring chart. With all four goals at the weekend Rose is in good enough form pull it off, and we know what the last Port Talbot player to score four went onto achieve. 7th March 2009 Its all Rosey at Caernarfon Top scorer Martin Rose scored all four goals on Saturday as Port Talbot twice came from behind to defeat bottom of the table Caernarfon 4-2 at The Oval. After falling behind to a penalty, Rose equalised with the second penalty of the match before Caernarfon again took the lead minutes later. Caernarfon were reduced to ten men before the break but the second half belonged to Rose as he grabbed another three goals including a superb individual effort for his hat-trick. The home side were reduced to nine men before the end of the match but it was Rose who would take the headlines with his excellent performance and impressive goal haul. 7th March 2009 Reserves defeated to open up title challenge The 2nd Team suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday as they went down 3-2 at home to Ammanford. Meanwhile the Exiles won 3-1 at Cornelly to further extend their lead at the top of the table. 6th March 2009 Jones praises side for Druids draw before Caernarfon test Manager Mark Jones has praised side for battling back to score a 95th minute equaliser against NEWI Cefn Druids on Tuesday night. “It was very pleasing that we kept battling until the final whistle and gained a reward for our efforts”, said Jones. “It was hard for the players on the back of last Saturday’s Welsh Cup defeat but they showed great character and I expect the same from them on Saturday at Caernarfon, which will be another difficult test for us against a side battling to stay in the league”. Striker Martin Rose is available for Saturday and Tuesday’s match at Welshpool but will then miss the next home match against Caersws on 14th March through suspension. Kick off at Caernarfon Town on Saturday is at 2.30pm. 6th March 2009 Reserves take on challengers this Saturday The 2nd Team are home to one of the few teams still in with a chance of catching on Saturday when Ammanford visit The GenQuip Stadium. Kick off is at 2.00pm. 4th March 2009 Second long journey against North Wales strugglers on Saturday On Tuesday night Port Talbot Town made the long journey to 17th placed NEWI Cefn Druids and this weekend the side return to North Wales to take on 18th and bottom placed Caernarfon Town. An injury time goal from captain Matthew Rees earned Port Talbot a point on Tuesday in a 1-1 draw in difficult conditions and he and his side can expect more of the same this weekend on the difficult playing surface at The Oval against a side battling to stay in the league. Gareth Phillips remains suspended for the match. 4th March 2009 Rayner inspires famous win for Crawley Town Former Port Talbot Town goalkeeper Simon Rayner kept a clean sheet on Tuesday night as his Crawley Town side defeated Wrexham 1-0 in the Blue Square Premier. Rayner has been a regular in goal for Crawley this season since signing from Torquay United in the Summer. 3rd March 2009 Reeso salvages point as Blues suffer cup hangover Captain Matthew Rees scored an injury time equaliser on Tuesday night as Port Talbot Town were held to a 1-1 draw at NEWI Cefn Druids. Karl Lewis made his first start since signing from local rivals Afan Lido at right back as Leigh De-Vulgt was named on the bench while Scott Evans replaced the suspended Gareth Phillips in midfield. Druids opened the scoring on 49 minutes through Geraint Lewis but Rees arrived with an equaliser on 95 minutes to salvage a point. Manager Mark Jones missed the match due to his daughter being taken to hospital and everyone at the club would like to pass on their best wishes to Mark and his family. 3rd March 2009 Appeal success for Guppy after Welsh Cup red Carmarthen striker Craig Hughes, sent off on Saturday against former club Port Talbot Town, successfully won an appeal against his dismissal and subsequently grabbed two goals in his sides 3-0 win over Haverfordwest County on Tuesday night. 2nd March 2009 Blues back in action Tuesday after Welsh Cup defeat Manager Mark Jones will have to pick his players up after Saturday’s Welsh Cup Quarter Final defeat for a difficult Tuesday night Principality Welsh Premier League match away at NEWI Cefn Druids. Carmarthen Town needed a 118th minute equaliser to take Saturday’s tie to penalties and to eventually win the match and Jones must now motivate his side for the midweek journey to take on a Druids side sitting in the bottom two after the weekend. Martin Rose grabbed a brace in the home match against NEWI Cefn Druids back in August as Port Talbot claimed a deserved 3-2 victory after James Burgin had opened the scoring and a repeat scoreline would be more than welcome on Tuesday as Port Talbot look to recover from Saturday’s defeat. Influential midfielder Gareth Phillips will miss the match following his red card at the weekend with Karl Lewis expected to return to the squad after being cup-tied on Saturday. Kick off at NEWI Cefn Druids on Tuesday night is at 7.30pm. 2nd March 2009 Reserves and Exiles maintain title challenges The 2nd Team remain ahead of local rivals Afan Lido in the MacWhirter Welsh League Reserve Division West after claiming a 5-0 win over Newcastle Emlyn at The GenQuip Stadium on Saturday. Meanwhile the Port Talbot Exiles extended their lead over Croeserw to eleven points with a 3-2 win at Porthcawl Athletic. A poor run of form continued for the Under-19‘s however as they suffered their fourth consecutive 2-0 defeat as league leaders Llanelli ran out winners at The GenQuip Stadium on Sunday. 2nd March 2009 Davies and Brady earn South Wales selection Port Talbot Town would like to congratulate both Megan Davies and Demi Brady from the Under-12 Girls Team on their selection for the South Wales representative team following Sunday’s trials in Mountain Ash. Almost 50 girls took part in the trials and the pair had to be at the their best to earn a place in the side.
